Frequently Asked Questions

  • MenuLibre does not start. It displays “MenuLibre cannot be run as root.”
MenuLibre copies and updates files in the user's home directory. When run as root (usually invoked by `sudo`), the files created are owned by the root user, which can cause unpredictable behavior including rendering the user's menu unusable.
    • If you have already used MenuLibre as the root user with a previous version, check your file permissions in the following locations:
      • /home/USERNAME/.config/menus
      • /home/USERNAME/.local/share/applications
      • /home/USERNAME/.local/share/desktop-directories
